The Greater Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce will hold the annual Thanks Team WSMR event on October 14, 2010, and we want your help saying thank you for the service of the civilian staff and military personnel of White Sands Missile Range along with their families.
Thanks Team WSMR is an annual event hosted by the Chamber that brings area businesses together to provide a day of food and fun for the men and women of White Sands Missile Range. More than 12 local restaurants have committed to provide food for the day and the Las Cruces Public Schools will host a children’s area filled with games and activities for younger members of the crowd. With troops returning from service in the Middle East and their families, the Chamber is expecting more than 1,000 attendees.
Several businesses have already made donations including: airline tickets, gift certificates, movie tickets, massages, promotional items, sports equipment, T-shirts, toys and more.
The Chamber is also seeking volunteers to work on the day of event setting up, serving food, serving beverages and more. If you are interested in volunteering, contact Committee Chair Savonne Griffin at sgriffin@firstlightfcu.org.

The Los Amigos will be holding their annual fundraiser for 4H and FFA kids on Friday, July 16th. These students work hard during the year learning about the agricultural industry through hands on experience raising their own livestock which they show and sell at the Southern New Mexico State Fair. All proceeds from this event goes DIRECTLY into the pockets of 4H and FFA students who participate in the Southern New Mexico State Fair’s annual junior livestock program and show in October.
This year the Los Amigos is hosting the “Los Amigos Saloon” – an old west themed casino night and calcutta at Dickerson’s Barn on Friday, July 16th! Doors will open at 6:00pm with dinner begin served at 6:30pm. For the cost of one ticket (just $100.00) you and your guest will enjoy a catered dinner, cash bar (with one free drink for each of you), live music and dancing, casino-style games, fun prizes and of course entry in the calcutta! The calcutta will be paying out $6,000.00 to three places and the entry is limited to 300 – pretty good odds!

ACTion Programs for Animals (APA) will be holding a pet food donation drive and information table inside the PETCO store at 3050 E. Lohman Ave. on Sunday, July 11, from 12 noon to 6 p.m.. The organization is seeking donated pet food for its pet food bank, which has been in service for the community for more than a year. More than 65,000 pounds of pet food have been distributed in the last year to more than 425 needy families. The pet food bank needs dry cat and dog food donations the most. A poker run for the March of Dimes will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on July 17.
The starting point will be The Body Works, 124 Westgate St., and other stops include Sunland RV, Severo’s, Buffalo Wild Wings, Pic Quik on Highway 70 at Sonoma Ranch. All proceeds will be given to the March of Dimes. All interested drivers of cars, trucks and motorcycle are welcome. Enter for a day of fun, food and prizes.
