Each month the Greater Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce receives dozens of requests for job opportunities in the area. In an effort to provide greater benefits to its membership, the Chamber is now allowing members to list employment opportunities to the public on Chamber’s website, www.lascruces.org.

Job listings on the Chamber website will be listed under the “Area Employment” link on the left-side navigation bar. Listings have no word limit and will even allow applicants to send in a resume directly to a contact of the member’s choosing.

Members can email their job listings to Joel Courtney, Chamber communication director, at jcourtney@lascruces.org.  Listings should include a job description, member organization name and contact email. Members may also choose to list benefits and pay range offered.

Believe in N.M. Girls Las Cruces Conference

September 11, 2010 at Sierra Middle School

This free event is open to all area eighth and ninth grade girls but is limited to the first 60 girls who register. Registration has begun and the deadline for registration is Tuesday, September 7, 2010.

Topics will include:

• * Workshops on goal setting, effective communication and active listening
• * Successful Women Luncheon Panel-Local business and professional women share their insights with middle school girls
• * Teambuilding exercises and games
• * Lunch is sponsored by Mesilla Valley Kitchen

Assisting with the conference is a team of local Las Cruces girls. The conference is a project of the N.M. Girls Institute, a proactive direct service that provides a safe and supportive environment for girls to learn about issues and develop skills that will allow them to become successful women. The Institute also holds an annual conference for high school girls in October.

Center Host

• A Center Host will greet visitors, answer phones, and work on simple computer, and other projects.
• The schedule for a Center Host is includes afternoon and evening. 
• The Center Host schedule is flexible.

Stonewall Coffeehouse and Open Mic Night Coordinators

The Stonewall Coffeehouse is a night to enjoy the talents of musicians, poets, comedians, drag queens, and other performers. 

• This event occurs the 1^st Friday of each month and the time commitment is approximately 10 hours per month.  (This includes the event and all related activities).
• We are looking for two coordinators for this event.
• The coordinators are responsible for picking up beverages and desserts from the restaurant which provides these items.
• The coordinators will also act as a barista and emcee.
• The coordinators will also recruit entertainers.

Pride Cinema Coordinators

• This event occurs the 3^rd Friday of each month and the time commitment is approximately 5 hours per month.
• We are looking for two coordinators to choose a DVD, which includes a GLBTQ theme.
• The coordinators will be responsible for the operation of a multi-media system.
• The coordinators will also be responsible for making popcorn as well as movie munchies, and the operation of a concession stand.

• Bipolar Disorder (Manic Depression)
• Schizophrenia and Schizoaffective Disorder
• Borderline Personality Disorder
• Panic Disorder and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
• Post-traumatic Stress Disorder
• Co-occurring Brain and Addictive Disorders

A series of 12 weekly classes structured to help caregivers understand and support individuals with serious mental illness while maintaining their own well-being.  The course is taught by a team of trained NAMI family member volunteers who know what it’s like to have a loved one struggling with one of these brain disorders.

There is no cost to participate in the NAMI Family-to-Family Education Program.

Topics include insurance options, subsidies, Medicare, Medicaid, Indian Health Services, small businesses, rural health, workforce development, and economics.

This will be the emphasis of health month and Project Hope will be conducting glucose screening, blood pressure, body mass index and maybe cholesterol screening, if supplies arrive in time. There will be A1C offered to those with high glucose readings and that are considered high risk. 

We will also have pet adoptions being offered all day (and also next month.) 

The Passport to Health Program will be conducting drawings for prizes for those that have completed and turned in their passports. 

We will have our regular programs: Mesilla Valley Bike Coalition, Walk, Yoga, ZUMBA, and Jump Rope. All of the other usual activities will be available.
