The Dona Ana County Cooperative Extension Service will be offering the Strong Women Program, an eight week research based strength training program for Women 50 years of age and older on Wednesday and Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Southwest Sport and Spine Center.Â
The series will be taught by Lourdes Olivas, Health and Fitness professional, who holds a bachelors degree in kinesiology. As part of NMSU’s Cooperative Extension Program, Lourdes has led the Fit Families Program for the last four years.
The Strong Women Program developed at Tufts University is based upon years of research on how strength training and proper nutrition improve the health of women of all ages. A program of strength training not only improves bone density but reduces falls, improves arthritis symptoms and increases flexibility and strength. The program is appropriate for both sedentary and very active women.
Learn more about the program by registering for the informational meeting to be held from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 15th, 2010. Please contact Gayla Weaver, Dona Ana County Cooperative Extension Service 525-6649 to register for the Strong Women Program. Pre-registration for the eight week series is necessary and the class is limited to 20 women.
